Established in 1935, Eglin Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base located in northwest Florida, about 60 miles east of Pensacola. Covering over 463,000 acres, it is the largest Air Force base in the world, and one of the most diverse and active military installations in the U.S.

The base is home to the 96th Test Wing, which is responsible for testing and evaluating new weapons systems. Eglin is also the headquarters of the Air Armament Center and is responsible for the development, acquisition, testing, and deployment of all air-delivered weapons. The base is also the home of the Air Force Research Laboratory Munitions Directorate, which conducts research and development in advanced weapons and munitions technology.

The base also hosts the Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal, which provides training for members of all branches of the military in the disposal of explosive ordnance. Eglin AFB is also home to the 7th Special Forces Group, a highly trained and specialized unit of the U.S. Army.
